It has recently been announced that VCR’s are obsolete and several electrical chain stores have said that they will no longer stock them. This seemed to happen very suddenly, there is usually a build up to this sort of announcement and we are accustomed to things being gradually phased out. Not this time though, the news just burst upon us and people who have not yet become comfortable with DVD technology are in a panic.
It seemed to me that the VCR had not been around for very long. I could understand this sudden rush on the part of the stores to remove it from their shelves if it was a failed experiment but the VCR has been a monster success. I suppose this is just an example of how the rush towards obsolescence and replacement with new inventions has speeded up.
I don’t have a problem with using a DVD recorder and the discs certainly take up much less storage space than the big old video tapes. It just made me feel suddenly old. No, not quite that, more as if I should be feeling older than I do. Don’t get me wrong, I am not all that ancient (baby boomer if you would care to know), but I have a problem with getting old. The problem is that I never feel any older and the face I see in the mirror sometimes takes me by surprise because in my mind I am still about nineteen. My children are no doubt thankful that my youth remains in my head and is not reflected in my wardrobe or social habits.
When I was a child, the VCR was still waiting around for someone to come along and invent it. Suddenly, it has been invented, been scaled down to a quarter of its original size and is now well on the way to disappearing altogether. The meteoric career of the VCR started me thinking about how many other things which we take for granted did not exist or were too expensive to be owned by the average person when I was a child.
Other generations have experienced massive events and social change. Nothing I have lived through can compare to the two World Wars. There was the invention of the National Health Service, the discovery of penicillin, the industrial revolution, the first aircraft, nylon. If you want to go back further there was the invention of the wheel and discovering how to make fire but I feel as if my generation must have seen a larger number of changes (great and small) than any previous one.
So much has happened within my lifespan: scientific inventions, historical events and cultural changes. Some, like space travel and the internet, are momentous. Some, like motorways, are part blessing and part curse. Some, like the cell phone and everyone owning a fridge, we don‘t even notice as being progress because nobody thinks about it. I doubt many people spend time reflecting upon the fact that, a few years ago, the cell phone was the size and weight of a house-brick and needed a long aerial.
The internet has made possible all the mad scientist dreams which inspired the writing of many shelves of fiction. We are now quite blasé about the fact that we can chat to and see a friend through our PC even though that friend is many miles away. It is not very many years since that idea would raise a smile when it appeared in a sci-fi movie because it was too incredible to seem even remotely possible. This became reality without anyone taking much notice, just science continually evolving and now its evolution is so fast that nobody tries to keep up, we all just take it for granted.
Just thinking about domestic things that did not exist in my childhood, I can list the microwave oven, VCR, DVD, PC, CD’s, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, freezer, television, central heating, dishwasher, double glazing, vacuum cleaner, cell phone, washing up liquid, fabric softener, plastic carrier bags, fast food (apart from fish and chips), paper tissues, soft toilet paper, duvets.
If any of the above things existed during my childhood, I knew nothing of them because they would have been too expensive for my family to afford. Eventually we owned a vacuum cleaner (the television came much later). When I was about ten years old, my mother would take me and my brother on a journey involving two buses to visit an aunt who owned a TV set. We would silently marvel at the black and white images which were available for just a few hours each day and there was no bickering over which channel to watch: there was only one.
There was no pre-packaged meat, butter, cheese, biscuits, rice, dried fruit. Come to think of it, there were no supermarkets. I loved waiting in line with my mother and watching the grocery shop assistants cutting slabs of butter from a huge block and patting them into shape with wooden paddles. Raisins and currants for the weekly baking session would be scooped from bulging hessian sacks and carefully tipped into the weighing pan. Biscuits were selected from big square tins and placed carefully into paper bags (any breakages would have to be sold off cheaply).
All these things gradually changed. Electrical goods became cheaper, supermarkets were invented and hygienic packaging arrived. The time when shopkeepers were treated with respect was past. Power shifted from the shopkeeper to the customer and we became the new breed of customer: we became Consumers. The VCR is our latest victim, I wonder what we will consume next.

Eve Online - A Complete Computer Game Review
Simply imagine you are piloting your space ship through space, on a search for fortune and fame. Perhaps you are in the process of working a trade route, transporting ore from a central mining area to a heavily industrialized planet in order to sell it at a huge fortune.
Just as you are flying through the star system, your sensors pick up on something...it's the pirates after you, and you sire off a few shots to keep them away. One of them shouts out at you, "You must hand over your cargo or die." Though you consider negotiating with them, but realize it's of no use. However you fire off a missle salvo at the pirate closest to you, and he crumbles into dust. As you make a run back to planet, another two pirates open fire thus weakening your shields. Miraculously you duck into its protection just as your shields breaks up, barely escaping death and heading towards the biggest sale of your life.
Eve Online is one of the several MMORPGs that can be found on the internet. An MMORPG stands for a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. A MMORPG like Eve Online is unlike a number of computer games in that in a regular computer game, where you are the sole human player; as for all the other characters you relate with are simply computerized "bots."
On the other hand in MMORPGs you're interacting with other people who populate the world of the game. There are NPCs (Non Player Characters), who are just a part of the game, however for the most part you're interacting with other people. For instance, the pirates in the Eve Online form the other people, at times on other parts of the world, linked through the Eve Online Server. If you receive messages, these are sent out by someone on the other end.
Although MMORPGs have been around for a long time (Everquest was definitely one of the most popular of all time), they are at present becoming increasingly more popular. Despite the fact the earliest MMORPGs were almost all fantasy based games that were full of wizards, warriors and dragons, many MMORPGs have split out. For instance, Eve Online is a futuristic, space-based combat and trading game, while The Sims Online is based on the popular Sims living and building game engine. A number of people are drawn to MMORPGs since they allow them to play an interesting computer game which enables them to interact with other people, keeping the player's interest and avoiding the predictability that some games can lapse into. Eve Online and other similar games function much alike small worlds with their own leaders, heroes, crooks, followers, wars and politics thus making the fantasy worlds that much closer to reality.

Making a Full Time Income With Freelancing
Making a consistent living as a freelancer isn't 'easy' but at the same time it certainly isn't complicated... Basically what this means is that you can't expect to just sit around and generate an income; but it's not so complex that no one can follow it, you just need to follow a proven blueprint.
First, know what you're worth; don't get into bidding wars where you're fighting over scraps, that will always be a losing battle. There will always be quality webmasters out there who understand the value of a quality freelancer; these are the types of people you want to work with.
The next thing you're going to want to do is position yourself as an expert freelancer so that you stand out above the rest. This isn't hard to do, especially when most people are too lazy to do it in the first place. This builds trust and also allows you to charge higher premiums for your work.
The last thing I'm going to talk about is just putting yourself out there. Use social networks, twitter, pay per click advertising; whatever it takes to stay in front of people. The more you market yourself as an expert the more work you'll ultimately get.

Personal Review of the Sorel Caribou
If you don't know what the Sorel Caribou is, then you have probably been asleep for the last years. Sorel, the company that produces the Caribou, claims that the shoe is the ultimate boot for all winter uses. Actually the company is now owned by Columbia, a clothing company that delivers to the whole world.
After using the Caribou for a few years now I feel that I have tested it enough to let everyone know what I think of the shoe. I have tested it in almost all conditions I can think of. I have used it for everything from walking to the store to two week long ice fishing trips with temperatures as low as 20 below celsius.
When I first bought the shoe I thought it was pretty ugly. I still do. It is a shoe with rubber around the foot and leather on the upper part of the outer shoe. You can imagine that the shoe is not something you use in a wedding. Somehow it has managed to become some sort of fashion wear in the norther parts of the world.
How does it perform then? I have to say that I am really impressed by it. I have never had a winter shoe that is as good as the Caribou. When I have been out in the extreme temperatures that occur here frequently I have never, and I mean never, been cold in this boot. When all my friends was freezing in their standard winter shoes, I was actually considering using shoes that were a bit colder, just to chill my feet down. This is the main advantage of the Caribou. But it has two other big pros. The first one is that it is completely water proof. This makes it a much more usable boot in all conditions. The second pro is that it is practically impossible to wear out a pair of Caribous if you threat them right. And that is not hard with a boot like this.
Another good thing about the Caribou is the price. Depending on your location, you can get it as low as $150 most places.

Tips to Transcribe Difficult Terms
Materials that are full of technical, financial or specialized terminology may be unfamiliar to the transcriptionists. It may be necessary to listen to words, terms, sentences or even a whole section several times in order to transcribe them properly. In such circumstances, it helps enormously if a glossary of keywords can be provided in advance or words can be spelt out while dictating.
If you are working with a new author or in a new area of business, you would be wise to get prior information about vocabulary and difficult words that may crop up. These words may not be specialist terms but may just be terms that are specific to the particular recording to be transcribed. Getting such a glossary avoids you using incorrect words throughout a document. Also, if you have a prior knowledge of a topic and information on the kind of words or names that may come up, you will find it easier to decipher words that on the first hearing you may think are audible.
Knowing how to spell difficult names or words will help not only to make the final version of your document more accurate, but it will make your task more enjoyable. There is nothing more frustrating than hearing a word time and time again and having no way of checking whether you are transcribing it correctly. This is particularly the case with people's names because no dictionary, specialist or otherwise will help you check the accuracy of the spelling.
If you are transcribing the recording of a meeting, you might wish to ask for a glossary, which contains the following- 1. The name of the attendees 2. The name of the project being discussed and related projects 3. Name of other people and organizations who are closely involved in the project 4. Relevant addresses, place names, property names 5. Technical phrases, jargons, abbreviations that may be used during the course of meeting
Create your own glossaries as you work. In addition to requesting a glossary from the authors, you may find it helpful to note down, as you transcribe, any words that you find difficult to hear or spell for your own future reference. In this way, you can create your own on-going glossary that you can refer to and add to any time-in financial, medical or legal terms.

How to Make Huge Affiliate Marketing Cash Each Month
Have you ever wanted to make affiliate marketing cash or any cash online? Whether you're a company in need of free promotion or a person who desires a legitimate work-from-home opportunity, affiliate marketing offers the perfect solution. It's free and relatively easy to do. Basically, if you know how to write a sentence, you have the skills needed to succeed and make big affiliate marketing cash online.
However, it's important to know which side of affiliate marketing you need to get into. For instance, if you're a business interested in free advertising, you'll need to get into affiliate marketing as a merchant. And how you do this will depend on the type of product you're selling.
For example, if you're selling an e-book, you could use Clickbank to find affiliate marketers. Or, if you're selling a product or a service, you can use affiliate networks like Commission Junction. Either way, the process is the same. Not only will you need a website, but you will also need additional online marketing materials, such as banners and newsletters to start earning affiliate marketing cash. From there, they will be posted into your affiliate account. If someone agrees to promote your company, they will receive a portion of your earnings. This could be in the form of a commission, click through or lead... whatever you decide.
Of course, that's just the first step. The second step involves trying to attract affiliates to your opportunity. You can do this by networking in Internet marketing forums, or advertising your affiliate opportunity on classified ads. If you do things right, you'll have a line of people promoting your product without any upfront investment and you will be earning affiliate marketing cash in no time.
This leads me to discuss the other side of affiliate marketing... the one where anybody can get paid to promote products and services. To take advantage of this, you apply to the same networks as the merchants. But instead of applying as a merchant, you need to apply as a publisher.
After your account is approved, your job is to promote links in order to generate affiliate marketing cash. There are several methods to do this, but the easiest way involves a process known as bum marketing. This is when you write a keyword-enriched article and place it on an article directory, (such as Ezine Articles). Once your article gets indexed in Google, you will start receiving a ton of free traffic. And within time this traffic will convert into real sales.

The Significance of Undergoing Work-Related Health and Safety Trainings
Occupational hazards can be minimized and eliminated if a good health and safety plan is in place. Setting up of a risk assessment and management program involves both the employer and the employee. There should be communication and cooperation between both parties since it also their interests which are at stake.
When there is an effective risk assessment and management program, the company undergoes a significant improvement in revenues, employee confidence, improved company safety records, and reduction in insurance premiums as well as employee's compensation claims.
Employees, on the other hand, experience less accidents and work-related stress. There is a pleasant working environment and the workforce is highly productive as a result.
It would also make the workforce more competent if there is the system for continuous improvement and learning. Occupational health and safety trainings empower the workers and the company greatly benefits from this enhanced competency.
Some of the more important trainings which employers need to focus on are:
1. Industrial Safety Training - Knowing the safe practices when working in any industrial setting is very important. It is the duty of every worker to be familiar with fire safety methods, accident prevention, and the use of personal protective gears. Injury prevention would be more effective if workers understand how accidents occur and what can be done to avoid them.
2. Fire Safety Awareness Training - Fires and explosions can be destructive, not only in the property loss they can bring about but also in the potential loss of lives. Therefore, basic practical understanding of fire safety measures, fire prevention procedures, and high level of fire safety awareness should be part of the training process.
3. Material or Manual Handling Training - Manual handling injuries is one of the leading causes of the time workers take off from work. In this course, employees are introduces to safe techniques and work procedures used in handling manufacturing and industrial materials. Practical understanding and skills are provided to employees when they are handling these materials, such as correct lifting techniques and mechanical aids.
4. Confined Space Training - Confined space training is especially for workers whose job involve going in and out of confined spaces such as a tank, tunnel, etc. Entry and traversing skills are assessed as well as the correct use of safety gears.
5. Electrical Safety Training - Adequate knowledge on how electricity can be dangerous and the techniques on how to handle it. Everything starts in the correct installation and set up of your electric wirings and other electrical mechanisms. Employees are trained on the different methods used for protection against electrical accidents.
6. Chemical Handling Safety Training - When dealing with chemicals in the workplace, extra care should be taken. The two main reasons for chemical accidents are improper disposal of chemical wastes and the mishandling of chemicals. Awareness of the risks involved in handling these chemicals is important in preventing accidents in the workplace. Practical knowledge on the handling and disposal as well as recognizing common chemicals is part of this training module.
7. Water Hygiene Training - This is important especially with workers who are working with potable water, pipe works, and water systems. Contamination of water source should be avoided at all costs. The employees are trained so that they can understand the importance good hygiene when working with drinking water.
These trainings will greatly improve the workers competency in their jobs and everyone will be reaping the benefits. Employees are more capable at their jobs, employers see an increase in their return of investment, and the consumers are given the highest quality of the product or services.
Undergoing training for occupational health and safety is definitely a good investment for any company. It is not only important for the quality of the product or service but also in the continuing improvement of the company.

E-Commerce - Waste Or Gain of Lifestyle?
Before you make up your mind, inform yourself of the positives and negatives of doing it, as well as not doing it.
Making money online requires a bit more than just clicking around in the email inbox. However, the initial effort of launching an e retail business is still not even remotely comparable to what's required to start an actual physical retail business.
So, let's say that you wanted to do business online. Let's also say you had 12 hours you could add to your current work week and let's say that you could keep up that pace for 6 months.
If doing so meant that you could make enough profit to quit your job in month seven, would it be worth it to you? If that were to happen, your lifestyle could obviously gain greatly from it. In month seven, you'd go from 52 hours a week to 20, possibly while making much more money than you ever did before.
But exactly how realistic is such a scenario? Very much so. Your success will of course be affected by secondary external factors like picking the right ad space channels, the right e banks, the right commission rates, using the right headline techniques etc. But that goes for everybody, regardless of coaching program and type of business.
Personally, I get reliable support and coaching 24/7. Such support allows me to focus on executing profit earning tasks as opposed to spending time deciphering how things work. The right schooling will take some of the guess-work out of it, and I would recommend you look one up that fits you.
However, the primary of factors to influence your e success, or lack thereof, will always be you. More specifically, your efforts and persistence. If you're a smart individual of competitive nature who doesn't mind working a few extra hours per day, e commerce could be the perfect thing for you to try.
Imagine making a decent income just by spending just a few hours online per day. It can happen, but it won't happen fast unless you put in more hours than that in the beginning. This is where most rookie online money makers fail - lack of persistence during the startup weeks.
Online money making can be very profitable, but before we can all be like the mentors we read about we must first learn exactly how they do it. We must take the time to learn it all thoroughly before we can expect to excel.
If money making online is something you plan to pursue sporadically, don't expect it to pay for a whole lot of vacation time with the family, never mind being able to resign from your current position. If it seems too complicated, maybe it's not for you. Maybe it would indeed lower the quality of your lifestyle, sitting in front of the screen every night after work.

Request Letters
A Request Letter is basically an expression or a question where we request to get particular information. It is also sometimes referred to as LOR - Letter of Request. If you are just asking for an interview then there is no need to enclose a resume.
While writing a request we generally use a formal style which begins with name (Person In charge) and address (Normally company name / address). Then comes the subject line with important details. Here you can also include references if any (Like in case of a request for a job interview). If you have any reference then you can ask him or her about the best way to approach the employer. Then write the body and finally the complimentary close. In the body of the letter introduce yourself and briefly describe the purpose. Also include all the necessary details. Always close the letter in a professional way. Use the words "Yours Sincerely," with your name beneath it. Don't forget to provide the contact information. It should also include phone number, e-mail address and your complete address.
Try to keep the letter short, simple and to the point. Expect that the person going through your request might be a busy person, so take out as much work as possible out of your request and focus on its main points. Always show respect as you are requesting. Always thank the person to whom you are writing for taking the time. While writing to get particular information, always provide a brief explanation about why you need that information. If you are writing for cancellation, then one should provide brief explanation on why you are canceling a particular service. All this will increase the chances of approval of your request.

3 Steps to Make Money Online Fast Using Article Marketing
Who doesn't need a quick buck for this Christmas? In this year end holiday season, folks will need some quick cash to grab gifts for family and friends or to throw a feast or party. Anyone can make use of some simple steps, 3 in all to make money online fast using article marketing.
Step 1 - Get Ready A Money Page
A money page is one that hands you the money. In this example, we are going to make use of a simple sales page. If you own your product or products, organize a fire sale or simply offer your product at a huge discount. You want to make the offer irresistible!
What if you do not own any product? There is a way around this. Use products with Master Resell Rights (MRR). Pack them, perhaps 10 of them into 1 salespage and offer it at a super low price. But make sure that you check the licensing conditions. Ideally, they should be focused on a single theme.
You may also consider targeting other niches. Since it is the Christmas season, you can offer Christmas related products. Search around for cheap recipes, etc that you can resell. Or take a look at eBay to see what others are selling there for ideas. Of course, the lazy man method is to search for a product (mostly internet marketing related) that you can promote for instant commissions. Products that run on scripts such as Rapid Action Profits and $7 script pay their affiliates instantly via PayPal.
Step 2 - Write Articles To Promote Your Money Page
Do some keyword research and find long-tail keywords and buzz keywords. Long tail keywords are meant more for long-term traffic. Buzz keywords are the keywords that are popular and hot now. If your product is related to "Twitter", find buzz words related to it. If your product is related to "Web 2.0", find them.
Create as many articles as you can, at least 10 will be good. Submit them to major article directories like EzineArticles, ArticlesBase, GoArticles and others. Create Squidoo lens and HubPages if you can.
Step 3 - More Promotion
Drive more traffic by posting your articles and Web 2.0 pages to social bookmarking sites and social bookmarking networks. StumbleUpon, Digg, Delicious, Twitter, FaceBook and others are great places. The idea is to get an instant rush of visitors.
Participate in blog commenting as well as forum postings. This will get some ready visitors to your money page.
By doing so, you will realize that the traffic will stream in very quickly. By pricing your offer very low, your conversion rates will be much higher and you can easily make money online fast from a small number of visitors.

1984 - George Orwell - Indicative Summary Notes
1984 is an English novel written in 1949 - envisaging life in 1984 under a totalitarian regime. It tells the story of Winston Smith, a middle-aged, unhealthy person who is a protagonist, working at the Ministry of Truth. His job is to edit historical accounts to tailor to the policies laid out by the government.
Power is split into three major groups of stake-holders: namely, Eastasia, Eurasia, and Oceania. 1984 is written from the angle of base in Oceania, which includes the United Kingdom. Oceania's people are of three political classes: the Inner Party, the Outer Party and the Proles. The Party (Government) controls the people through Ministry of Truth, where Winston Smith works.
The main characters in the novel are Winston Smith, Julia (his flawed lover), Big Brother (the director of Oceania - popularly believed to be Orwell's portrayal of Stalin), his opposing member Emmanuel Goldstein (a former top member - popularly believed to be Orwell's portrayal of Trotsky), and O'Brien (a government agent who deceives Winston Smith and Julia posing as a member of resistance). There are also other side characters such as Aaronson, Parsons, Katharine and a few others.
The novel has three main phases. In the first phase comes a description of the world in Winston Smith's (Orwell's) vision in 1984. The the second phase he and Julia get involved in an illicit romantic relationship, and Smith is caught by the Thought Police (who had been spying on him and Julia). He is tortured, and re-educated. He is scared of rats, so he is exposed to a cage-full of starving rats, and he shouts in fear, "do it to Julia". His re-education gets over. In the third phase, Smith is released, and he and Julia meet in a park and acknowledge that they had betrayed each other. Smith accepts the Party and accepts his own love for the omnipotent Big Brother.
1984 is a political satire and many similarities can be observed here with George Orwell's other famous novel Animal Farm. In both the novels, one can see a betrayed revolution, and in both case the leaders are involved in betrayal. Orwell, in his essay Why I Write, explains that everything serious he had written post-1936 (Spanish Civil War) was against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism - directly or indirectly. And while reading 1984, one can clearly see he meant that.
Some of the famous quotes are:
WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.
BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU
DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER
He wondered, as he had many times wondered before, whether he himself was a lunatic. Perhaps a lunatic was simply a minority of one.
The rocket bombs which fell daily on London were probably fired by the Government of Oceania itself, 'just to keep people frightened.'
The birds sang, the proles sang. The Party did not sing.
We are the Dead.
There are some more, and the reader might want to find his/her own quotes from the book. 1984 is a book where one can claim to find literally more than a hundred quotes worth mentioning for all practical purposes.

Elliptical Trainer Reviews - How To Use Them To Make A Wise Buy
If you are planning to buy and elliptical trainer then you will probably have looked at some reviews on the web or in magazines and been thoroughly confused. They all seem to offer you different information and come to different conclusions. They all claim to be talking about the same product, but they are all so different. How can you judge between all these competing views?
It may seem simple to give a simple star rating to a product and recommend a best buy but you have to think about how the reviewer has come to this conclusion. One reviewer might be rating elliptical trainers on the basis of price another might rate the manufacturers warranty more highly.
You also have to think about who is doing the review. Is the reviewer an expert in the field of fitness equipment? A reviewer who knows nothing about fitness equipment may give an elliptical trainer a five star rating but that won't mean very much. They will probably have based themselves on its price or its looks. This is not much use if you want to get the best out of your elliptical trainer as piece of equipment.
Sure price is important, but it can be a false economy to buy a cheap elliptical trainer. The elliptical trainer is a great piece of kit. It provides you with a full cardiovascular workout without impact on your joints. You should spend some time on chosing the right one. You are going to be using it every day so it will have to withstand a lot of wear.
The equipment you see in the gym is of a very high standard and comes with a manufacturer's warranty. It is in use all day, every day. Equipment you use at home does not get this amount of use but it needs to be robust. Moving parts will soon wear out and break if several members of the family are using the elliptical trainer every day and it is a cheap one.
So read the reviews carefully and see whether the reviewer is anticipating light use or heavy use. So many people buy an elliptical trainer and use it enthusiastically for a few weeks then forget about it. There is no point in doing this if you are serious about getting fit.
An elliptical trainer that is in daily use will need maintenance so a manufacturer's warranty can be an important factor. It will make the elliptical trainer more expensive but it may save you money in the long run. You need to know that you can get the elliptical trainer fixed if it breaks down. Your entire fitness program will be disrupted if your elliptical trainer is lying idle waiting for repair.
To speak frankly, some reviewers do not understand that the elliptical trainer is central to a home fitness program. When you go to a gym there is always another machine to use when one has broken down, but when you are working out at home your equipment needs to work. Working out at home can save on gym membership and be more convenient but don't be tempted to cut costs too much where your elliptical trainer is concerned.
Some reviewers may seem knowledgeable and speak with assurance and certain elliptical trainers but they are not really impartial. They may be working for the company that makes the machine. The elliptical trainers made by other companies may get a bad review because they want you to buy one their company makes. So look for knowledge about the product but also objectivity in an elliptical trainer review.
